We are losing our fabulous Reference Librarian, Sarah Palacios-Wilhelm. Last weekend she graduated GW with her second Master’s Degree (overachiever!) and now she and her family are leaving happy Eckles for a new life in Houston, Texas.

Sarah has been responsible for a lot of great stuff both at Eckles and Gelman. You can thank her for your ability to ask questions via Instant Message through the EcklesInfo and GelmanInfo programs. You also have Sarah to thank for the Eckles Prize (have you entered yet?). On top of all that, she has been a great teacher and source for reference assistance.

Next year we’ll have a bright and shiny new Reference Librarian here at Eckles, but no one will ever replace Sarah.

In honor of this wonderful day I’m posting this video of Ella Fitzgerald singing the greatest song of summer ever, Summertime.

Eckles will close at our regular time of 7pm tonight. We will reopen at 11am tomorrow and will continue in our regular semester hours until Tuesday.

Eckles is proud as can be to host the Alternative Spring Break: Building Community and Communities photo exhibit in the first floor gallery space.

Each year a diverse group of students from throughout GW participate in Alternative Spring Break. This year, 93 students traveled to Camp Hope in New Orleans, Louisiana to work with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Along with great memories and probably some tired muscles ASB participants brought back some fascinating photographs of their work and the work left to be done. Be sure to drop by Eckles to check them out!

Who doesn’t love a gooey yummy peanut butter and jelly sandwich during a long night of studying? With some cold milk and maybe a cookie or two? Delicious!

Come into Eckles tonight from 11:30pm - 12:30am for another Make-Your-Own-PB&J Extravaganza. It is a fun study break and late night snack…and best of all it is totally free!

Why do we do this? Because Eckles loves you.

Back by popular demand (and I mean POPULAR) it is Cereal Night at Eckles!

Stop by the first floor beginning at 11:30pm for an assortment of cereals and milk plus fruit and a few other treats.  The party ends at 12:30am or when the food runs out - which ever comes first.

It’s totally free because we know you need a study break and some brain food to get through finals.

How about jelly?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you’ll want to head to Eckles tonight between 11:30pm and 12:30am for the return of our wildly popular Make-Your-Own-PB&J Midnight Snack.

It’s free. It’s delicious. And it is all from Eckles Library.

Finals are upon us, friends, and you need a place you can kick back in a comfortable environment with a steady flow of free coffee and study all night long. In short, you need Eckles Library.

You’re going to be up all night studying and so are we!  Eckles is open 24-hours a day until Friday, May 9.   Come by day or night and we’ll be here to answer a reference question, help you find a book or wake you from that much needed 4am nap.

But we know you need more, so the Coffee, Cappuccino and Hot Chocolate are Free until the end of Finals.  Don’t forget to bring your own cup so you can keep the caffeine flowing.

You can improve your foreign language skills AND eat free cookies! How great is that?

It is the Foreign Language Coffee Hour and it is only at Eckles Library. Once a month you can kick back on our comfortable 1st floor couches, drink some coffee and converse in a foreign language with a GW professor and other students. All levels of proficiency are welcome! It’s stress free and the best way to solidify what you are learning in class.
