Cafe G now open

Gelman Library is happy to announce the opening of a new space where students and patrons can take a break from studying and grab a bite to eat! Now, when you need to eat while working, you won’t have to leave the library!

Cafe G is located on the first floor. Turn right immediately after entering to find it.

Widgets & Web 2.0 Tools at Gelman

You do your work in many different locations - so why should you have to come to the library’s website to look up library resources? Gelman Library has put together an assortment of applications, browser add-ons, and other web-based tools that will allow you to find information and stay organized. Why not try something new?

With these tools, you can:

  • Search the library’s catalog from Facebook or your browser’s search box
  • Easily schedule your study group meetings
  • Write your research paper without any expensive software
  • Save your bookmarks and sources so that you can access them anywhere

Workshops on Getting Your Dissertation Through the ETD Process

There are two training sessions coming up for doctoral students writing their dissertation and getting ready to submit through the ETD process. These sessions will cover:

  • Styles
  • Table of Contents
  • Page Numbering
  • Sections/Section Numbering
  • Headers/Footers
  • Footnotes/End Notes
  • Margins
  • Paragraphs
  • Spacing
  • Document indexes

The sessions will be:
Feb 29 from 9:30-12, Computer Lab B109, Academic Center

March 18 from 2-4:30, Room 300, Gelman Library

The sessions will be taught by Basil Jackson from ISS.

RefWorks Workshops at Gelman

  • Wednesday, November 7 - 3-5 pm
  • Thursday, November 8 - 7-9 pm

Refworks is an online tool for organizing your research and creating bibliographies, brought to you by the Gelman Library. RefWorks allows you to store and file your references in different folders, add research notes or other information, and format your paper, dissertation, or other research project with the click of a button. Additionally, because RefWorks is an online tool, you have access to your account from any computer and you can easily locate the items using the Find-It button!

Additional Study Space for Mid-Terms

We have heard your suggestions! Due to the high demand for study space for mid-terms, the 3rd Floor will remain open 24-hours during the following days:

Sunday – Thursday, Oct. 21-25 open 24-hours*
Sunday – Thursday, Oct. 28-Nov. 1 open 24-hours
Friday, Nov. 2 return to regular Fall schedule

*Please note that there will be no 24-hour study available on the 3rd floor, Friday through Saturday, Oct. 26-27.

Gelman now offers a Frequently Asked Questions page, with answers to over 200 common questions about using the library and doing research. Whether you need to know where the 24-hour areas are in the library, or where to find an article, the FAQS are an excellent place to start.
